Wil goes on to say that his dad used to abuse him as a child — shaking him by the shoulders and screaming in his face, amongst different issues, and he says seeing Larry do that to Elmo had his coronary heart racing because it dredged up inner trauma in his thoughts. He is fairly severe, too.
He finishes by saying what Elmo means to so many children — particularly in that phase, the place he promoted psychological well being consciousness — makes Larry’s assault all that rather more sickening.

FWIW, Larry did “apologize” to Elmo shortly after his outburst … and clearly thought it was all in good enjoyable. Apparently not, although, from Wil’s POV — dude is straight-up outraged and damage.
