Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors developed a video in honor of Women’s History Month today … and after it was met reaction, they rapidly erased it — and now, they’re excusing all of it.
The clip included 3 Raptors gamers responding to why they think the declaration “girls run the world” is a reality.
Two of the gamers, Malachi Flynn and Precious Achiuwa, offered cringeworthy actions.
“They are the only one that can procreate,” Flynn stated.
“They birth everybody,” Achiuwa stated.
Scottie Barnes had a more tasty response, merely mentioning, “all women are great because they are queens.” But, that wasn’t enough to stop critics from blasting the video on social networks as quickly as it was published.
Many called it tone deaf and offending — and the Raptors took it down a brief time later on.
On Thursday, the group provided an apology for it in a declaration to the Toronto Sun.
“We’re an organization that prides itself on doing the right thing when it comes to inclusion and representation, and we made a mistake [Tuesday],” Toronto authorities stated. “Our sincerest apologies to our players, our staff and our fans — we’ll work to do better today and every day after.”
The Raptors will supposedly host a ladies’s empowerment night on March 14 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto when they play the Denver Nuggets. Here’s hoping the homage that night goes much better than Tuesday’s.
