Longtime Groundskeeper ‘Finished’ W/ NFL After S.B. Debacle, ‘Can’t Take It Anymore’

George Toma — the NFL’s longtime groundskeeper who passes the label, “The Sodfather” — is pissed off at the league over its dreadful Super Bowl LVII field conditions … stating he “can’t take it anymore.”

Toma, who invested 18 months preparing the rye turf that was utilized throughout the Chiefs vs. Eagles match on Feb. 12, unloaded in an interview with ESPN on Tuesday … declaring the sod was overwatered 4 days prior to the huge video game at State Farm Stadium.

Of course, there were many circumstances of gamers slipping all over the field throughout SB LVII … with numerous questioning how the league might screw up on its most significant phase. The NFL refuted any issues the day after the video game, though … stating the turf was evaluated and satisfied the needed requirements.

Toma is pointing fingers right at the NFL’s field director, Ed Mangan, for the turf being slick the day of the video game … declaring, “he waters the hell out of it and puts it right into the stadium and that’s it. Never sees sunlight again. He can’t do that.”

But H20 obviously wasn’t the only mess-up — Toma likewise declares Mangan made the error of not sanding the field enough.

“He sanded it two weeks too late,” Toma informed the outlet. “He had only one sanding. He should have had two or three sandings, but he didn’t do s***. And that was it.”

“And not only that, he didn’t take care of it. He wouldn’t listen to anybody.”

After 80 years in the biz, Toma revealed his strategies to retire prior to SB LVII … pointing out headaches brought on by the league’s handling of field problems in the past too.

“Me and the league are finished. They can’t tell me what to do anymore. We’re done.”
