George Floyd’s Killer Derek Chauvin Is ‘Expected to Survive’ Prison Stabbing

Derek Chauvin, the previous Minneapolis police officer convicted of killing George Floyd, is predicted to outlive the jail stabbing assault.

Chauvin, 47, was stabbed earlier this week at an Arizona jail. Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara and a spokesperson for state lawyer common Keith Ellison’s workplace advised PEOPLE that Chauvin is on the mend and in secure situation.

A supply aware of the incident beforehand advised the AP on Friday that Chauvin was significantly injured after he was attacked by one other inmate within the Federal Correctional Establishment in Tucson, Arizona.

The medium-security jail has been low-staffed which has prompted an absence of safety, PEOPLE reported.

“No employees were injured during the incident,” an announcement from the BOP learn. “Responding employees initiated life-saving measures for one incarcerated individual. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested while life-saving efforts continued.”

“The incarcerated individual was transported by EMS to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation,” the assertion concluded.
