Garth Hudson, the final surviving member of the basic rock group The Band, has died.
Hudson died in his sleep in Woodstock, New York Tuesday morning, according to his estate.
Hudson, who performed keyboards, was a founding member of the Rock and Roll Corridor of Fame group, which later turned a backing band for Bob Dylan within the Nineteen Sixties earlier than branching out to success by itself.

The Band’s signature mix of rock, nation, folks and blues earned them business respect and fame … they had been one of many acts that performed on the famed Woodstock Pageant in 1969.
The Band consisted of Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, and Garth Hudson — along with Dylan, they labored with Neil Young and others, and had been featured within the Martin Scorsese live performance documentary “The Last Waltz” launched in 1978. Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr and Muddy Waters, amongst many others, all appeared at The Band’s ultimate live performance — the topic of the movie — on Thanksgiving 1976 in San Francisco.
Garth Hudson was 87.
