Episode 8 of House of the Dragon was terrible. In an interview with EW Geeta Patel, the director of the episode, discussed that this scene in between the 2 siblings with the crown was not in the script, it was a mishap throughout practice session that led Smith to improvise.

Smith has explained that you never really know if Daemon is “in pursuit of advantages” or attempting to “cause mayhem,” or as if it’s a “little bit of both.” In this throne space scene we saw both sides, and with the king a real minute of great, as Patel discussed:

I was so appreciative that mishap took place, that the crown fell off due to the fact that it showed to be, a minimum of for me, rather a heavy minute and rather a turning point for a story that had actually begun in the pilot: Hey, I desire your crown and by the end here I’m gonna put the crown back on your head and I’m gonna assist you to your throne.

This minute of care was felt by the fans, who had some fantastic responses to Daemon and Viserys’ scene.
