Restaurants offering bottomless mimosa brunches are adding “vomit fees” to address the issue of patrons getting sick due to overindulgence.
CBS station KRON in San Francisco reported that Kitchen Story in Oakland, California, has introduced a $50 cleaning fee for patrons who throw up in the restaurant.
Home Plate, another restaurant in the San Francisco area, will inform brunch-goers that they will be charged a $50 fee for “any incident caused by intoxication.”
Restaurants are imposing extra fees for cleaning up after sick customers, adding to a trend of charges for various services. This happens as restaurants face labor shortages and rising labor and food costs.
According to Kitchen Story co-owner Chaiporn Kitsadaviseksak, the restaurant hasn’t had to impose the fee since posting the sign.
