Emaza Gibson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Jason Derulo.

In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Gibson claims that Derulo terminated their agreement after she declined his advances of a sexual nature, as well as invitations to socialize and consume alcohol. Gibson accuses Derulo of engaging in quid pro quo sexual harassment.

In 2008, Gibson relocated to Los Angeles with her sisters Saiyr and Znuie to chase a music career together as the musical group Ceraadi. While Gibson’s sisters have since moved away from the music industry, Gibson herself harbored aspirations of forging a solo career.

Per the lawsuit, Derulo contacted Gibson with hopes of collaborating on a project involving his music label and Atlantic Records. The lawsuit discloses that her contractual obligations included releasing a single featuring Derulo, crafting a mixtape within a four-month timeframe, and delivering an album within six months. Throughout this period, Derulo frequently extended invitations for drinks at an exclusive members-only lounge. However, Gibson declined these invitations to maintain a professional relationship.

“I told him that I wasn’t a drinker … so it’s like, you know, you’re not listening to that the first time I tell you, and you’re still pushing on me,” Gibson said. “It’s, like, pressure at this point.”

Additionally, before a meeting, Derulo informed Gibson that a woman named Rosa would be joining them. According to the lawsuit, Rosa told Gibson that Derulo invited her along because he was involved in an intimate relationship with her. The legal document states that when Gibson expressed her discomfort regarding Rosa’s presence, Derulo lost his composure and hit his armrest aggressively. Following this exchange, he allegedly went completely silent, failing to designate a project manager for Gibson’s work and ignoring her messages.

Nevertheless, Atlantic Records terminated Gibson’s contract on September 6, 2022.
