Despite having no ties to Mike Leach, the Miami Redhawks are still admiring the late coach in a remarkable method — putting substantial decals including crossbones on the backs of their helmets on Friday.
The school revealed the homage at the Bahamas Bowl versus the UAB Blazers … flaunting a huge, black sticker label that has Leach’s name on it with a pirate-themed MAC logo design.
Leach, naturally, was nicknamed “The Pirate” due to his fixation with sea burglars … and on the Miami decal, they included another homage to that by putting the hashtag “#FlyTheFlag” at the bottom.
The ode is especially significant thinking about Leach never ever coached at Miami — nor in the MAC … which reveals simply how far his training genius reached throughout his life.
