Unless they’re preview at “American Horror Story” (paradise forbid, seriously), kids today do not even understand how scary television can be. Growing up in the ’90s, we were continuously terrifying the sh*t out of ourselves on Saturday early mornings with programs like “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” and “Goosebumps.” It’s a marvel we ever got a wink of sleep with all the frightening stories about haunted masks getting stuck to our faces and things.

While those 2 programs are unquestionably the crown gems of the scary kids’ programs, there are a number of more that you might have ignored. Who keeps in mind “Tales From the Crypt,” which ranged from 1989 to 1996? Or how about “The New Addams Family” (not to be puzzled with Netflix’s upcoming Tim Burton-directed “Wednesday” series starring Jenna Ortega)? And then there was likewise “The Nightmare Room,” which was another “treat” from R.L. Stine, along with “Courage the Cowardly Dog,” which is by far among the creepiest kids programs of perpetuity.
